LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 1, 2012) − The University of Kentucky College of Design will close the academic year with its End of Year Show featuring projects and proposals by the college's architecture, historic preservation and interior design students for the 2012-2013 school year. This annual exhibition showcases the creative work of select studios and the culmination of the year’s research.

The college's fourth annual End of Year Student Show will display the innovative research, design and partnerships taking place at the College of Design through the work of its most noteworthy studios. It will include renderings, models and displays from such upper level studios as Taipei Office Studio, Performa and many others that are revolutionizing design solutions for problems experienced on a global level and within the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

The UK College of Design End of Year Show, a free public exhibit, will run from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, May 3, at LOT (Land of Tomorrow) Gallery, located at 527 E. Third St. The Hardwood Pizza Truck will cater the night's festivities.

The exhibition will also be available for public viewing a second time as part of Commencement activities. The college will host a farewell reception for Dean Michael Speaks, who will become dean of the School of Architecture at Syracuse University on July 1, and its graduating students from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at LOT.

This spring semester, students from the UK School of Architecture participated in an innovative new studio, dubbed “Office Studio.” The project, which involves distance learning, global collaboration and study abroad components, allows students to gain a preview of the operations of an international architecture firm. In conjunction with students from the National Chiao-Tung University, located in Hsinchu, Taiwan, and Hong Kong University, UK students are collaborating with the city government of Taipei, Taiwan, on proposals for the regeneration of the Taipei Railway Depot. Led by Dean Speaks and Assistant Professor of Architecture Angie Co, Taipei Office Studio serves a collaborative learning environment structured to simulate the collaboration required in today’s design industry.

The Performa Studio, the research and fabrication studio led by Assistant Professor Michael McKay, studies multi-performative material systems using off-the-shelf products and experimental digital and physical modeling practices. The studio's work was featured last fall on the contemporary art site suckerPUNCH, as well as named an Editor's pick on the website Archinect.

LOT Gallery is a project space created to facilitate the making and showing of experimental work in the fields of art, design and music in Kentucky.
